🌱 Children's Program - First Day School at Purchase Meeting
At Purchase Quaker Friends Meeting, we welcome children and families into our community with care and intention.
During Meeting for Worship, young people are invited to participate in the Children's Program (First Day School) — the Quaker version of Sunday School.
Named for the traditional Quaker practice of calling Sunday “First Day,” First Day School offers children a space to explore spirituality, community, and Quaker values in age-appropriate and engaging ways.
Our First Day School program includes:
-
Stories from Quaker history and other traditions
-
Exploration of the Quaker testimonies (Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship — often remembered as “SPICES”)
-
Creative activities, reflections, and sometimes time spent outdoors
-
Opportunities to join part of Meeting for Worship when appropriate
Children are cared for by trusted adults from the Meeting, and all programming is grounded in gentle listening, curiosity, and respect.
We believe that even the youngest among us have wisdom to share and a vital place in our spiritual community. All children are welcome, whether they’re visiting for the first time or returning week after week.
